Heights Bulldog Band Ensembles
Marching Band
The Heights High School “Bulldog Marching Band” is comprised of all members in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band.
The marching band rehearses after school during the fall semester only and performs at pep rallies, all varsity football games, 4-5 marching contests, and other special events as needed.
Color guard

The Visual Ensemble (Color guard) is a part of the band program that offers an opportunity for students to learn and perform dance/movement with equipment such as flags, sabers, and rifles, year-round. Any student enrolled at Heights High School (grades 9-12), Hogg MS/Hamilton MS (grades 7-8) are welcomed to audition and become a member. Auditions are typically held in April and May.
In the spring semester, students will perform separately from the marching band in winter guard. Winter guard is performed in a gym/arena and exposes the performers with dance/equipment as the main performance focus. Winter guard season begins in November and typically runs through April.
Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the top-performing ensemble at Heights High School. Students will have the opportunity to continue their ensemble, musical, and technical development at the most advanced levels. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals, clinics, and performances is required.
Symphonic Band
Directed by Malcolm Whorton & Jathniel Joaquín
The Symphonic Band offers the opportunity for continued development of individual and ensemble skills at an advanced level. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals, clinics, and performances is required. Weekly, one-hour section rehearsals begin in January at the beginning of the Spring Semester through April.
Concert Band

The Concert Band offers the opportunity for continued development of individual and ensemble skills at a more fundamental level. Attendance at all out-of-school rehearsals, clinics, and performances is required. Weekly, one-hour section rehearsals begin in January at the beginning of the Spring Semester through April.
Jazz Band 1 & 2

The Jazz Ensemble is a group of selected student musicians interested in the study of music in the jazz idiom. The Jazz Ensemble will perform at concerts, community events, and festivals throughout the year.
Prerequisite: Membership in the Heights High School Band.
Audition/approval by Director.
Percussion Ensemble

The Heights Percussion Ensemble (HPD) consists of members of the percussion section. Performing a variety of literature from classical to contemporary, the ensemble will perform at various venues as well as the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest that usually takes place at the beginning of February.
