Mariachi De los Altos
Mariachi de los Altos is the award winning mariachi program that strives to continue the rich heritage of mariachi and bring it to a diverse audience. These students perform a variety of genres from rancheras to sones.
The members of Mariachi de los Altos are placed in either Varsity or Beginner.
Varsity Group: Membership into this group is based on audition/ director's choice. This group performs frequently and participates in the UIL Mariachi Contest and TMEA Mariachi auditions. They perform with the traditional instrumentation as dictated by UIL and TAME standards.
Beginner Group: Membership into this group is open to all that are interested in immersing into the world of Mexican ethnomusicology through performance. No experience in mariachi or music is required, but it is encouraged. Instrumentation requirements is flexible, but new members are highly encouraged to learn one of the traditional instruments.
This is the list of the Traditional Mariachi Instrumentation. Anything outside of these instruments would be considered experimental and would be placed in the beginner category.
